Breathe E-Z Systems’ HBT Sleuth hydrogen monitor is used by
physicians to perform fast but precisely accurate lactose testing. The HBT
Sleuth is a small, high-tech monitor that helps the physician determine if a
patient is lactose intolerant through a hydrogen breath test (HBT).
The lactose testing is a simple process that is fast, easy and painless. The
patient provides a breath sample by blowing into a balloon-type bag that’s
attached to the HBT Sleuth. Typically, very little hydrogen should be detected
in the breath. The first breath creates a baseline measurement for the attending
physician. The patient is then asked to drink a pleasant tasting solution and
repeat the breath sample intermittently. As the lactose testing continues,
detection of increased hydrogen within the progressive breath samples indicates
improper digestion or lactose intolerance.
